Casting:
Thing from The Addams Family
This project was part of the Crafts in Costumes and Props class. Our assignment was to create our own version of Thing from The Addams Family. I made a cast of my hand out of alginate, then filled the crevice with hard plaster. Once it hardened, I attached it to a wooden base and was able to paint and decorate it.

Holding my hand in the alginate to create an exact copy.

After letting the alginate set, we added plaster to the mold. Here is when I started peeling the alginate off

An exact copy of my hand made of plaster.

Hand super glued to a wooden base with the first coat of paint.

Taking my hand back to my apartment on the bus.

While traveling, the pinky broke off, and I needed to fix it with super glue.

Added a finishing touch of nail polish to make my "Thing" a little more personal.

All paint layers added to the hand.

Added sutures, made out of leather cording, to the pinky break line.
